GLASS CONFIGURATION

Choosing what type of glass one might use in a project may be more difficult than it appears at first glance. Knowing the result you want to achieve, though, might make the task easier. Are we looking to enhance architectural appearance? Protection from the pernicious effects of Solar Energy? Quietness from the outside world?

Insulated Glass:

Insulated Glass consists of two panes of glass with air space in between. It provides relatively good insulation and protection against noise and temperature variation (enhanced protection when combined with tinting) .

Annealed Glass: Breaks more easily than tempered glass, producing splinters.

PVC Windoors offers the following configuration :

¾” Overall thickness: 3/16” Annealed Outer Pane

3/8” Air Space

3/16” Annealed Inner Pane

For Casements, Tilt & Turn, Double Hung, Double Sliders, Fixed Units, French Windows, Awning and Upper Windows.

Tempered Glass : Considered to be six times more resistant to impact than annealed glass, this type of safety glass has the property to completely shatter in small “round” pieces under high pressure or impact. Also, ironically, the tempered glass surface is not as hard as annealed glass and is more susceptible to scratching.

PVC Windoors offers the following configuration:

¾” Overall thickness: 3/16” tempered Outer Pane

3/8” Air Space

3/16” tempered Inner Pane

For French and Entry Doors and oversize picture windows.

1” Overall thickness: 3/16” tempered Outer Pane

5/8” Air Space

3/16” tempered Inner Pane

For Sliding Doors.

Impact Glass:

Impact Glass (a.k.a. “laminated glass”) is produced by bonding two or more layers of ordinary glass together with a plastic (PVB, Ionoplast, Polycarbonate to name but a few) interlayer. The interlayer keeps the two pieces of glass bonded even when broken, and its high strength prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces. Laminated glass is considered a safety glass due to its ability to hold together when shattered. PVC Windoors is proud to offer a stronger type of Impact Glass on its products. The glass we use offers five times the tear strength and 100 times the rigidity of conventional interlayer. Due to chemical properties, this glass is less prone –if at all- to delamination than its more conventional counterpart. The interlayer also gives the glass a much higher sound insulation rating, due to the damping effect, and also blocks 99% of transmitted UV light.

PVC Windoors offers the following configuration in Heat Strengthened :

7/16” Overall thickness: 3/16” Heat Strengthened Outer Pane

.090 Interlayer

3/16” Heat Strengthened Inner Pane

For Sliding Doors

9/16” Overall thickness: ¼” Heat Strengthened Outer Pane

.090 Interlayer

¼” Heat Strengthened Inner Pane

For Casements, Tilt & Turn, Double Hung, Double Sliders, Fixed Units, French Windows, Awning, Upper Windows, Entry and French Doors.

TINTING

In term of glass tint, PVC Windoors offers the following options:

Clear Glass

Starphire : Unlike Clear glass, which has a slight green tint due to its iron content, Starphire is an ultra clear glass with high visual clarity, visible light transmission and clear and brilliant edges.

Azuria: Slightly Aquamarine tinted glass. Beautifully enhance the sea and the sky. Well suited for coastal and poolside locations. Low Reflective.

Solar Bronze: Bronze colored glass, it reduces solar heat gain and glare. Low Reflective.

Graylite: Gray, almost black colored glass, it combines superior heat load reduction and solar control with a distinctive color contrast. Visible Light Transmittance inferior to 45 %. “Turtle Code” Compliant. Low Reflective.

OptiGray 23: Gray-tinted glass with a warm bronze undertone and improved solar control properties. Helps reduce the air conditioning load Visible Light Transmittance inferior to 45 %. “Turtle Code” Compliant. Low Reflective.

Solar Gray: Cool light gray appearance. Reduces solar heat gain and glare. Visible Light Transmittance inferior to 45 %. “Turtle Code” Compliant. Low Reflective.

Atlantica: Emerald Green tinted glass; Low Reflective.

Caribia: Aqua-Green tinted glass; it is a combination of tropical green with ocean blue. Well suited for coastal and poolside locations. Low Reflective.

Reflective: Glass with reflective coating is available for both Insulated Glass and Impact Glass; on clear or tinted glass. In case of tinted glass, the coating can be applied either on surface # 1 or # 2, with different results. When installed on surface # 1, the glass has improved performance, higher exterior visible reflectivity, a slight bronze hue while the substrate color is slightly less intense. When installed with the reflective coating on the second surface, the glass has lower exterior visible reflectivity while maintaining its color.

SPECIAL PATTERNS

Frosted (Pattern 62): Probably one of the most popular obscure glass patterns. It provides great distortion with high light transmittance.

Rain Glass Pattern: Rather self explanatory pattern. Less distortion than pattern 62, with similar light transmittance.

Expression Impact Glass: Relatively new product. It consists of printing a digital image on an Impact Glass interlayer. Almost virtually any image can be printed, with different degree of opacity. Resistant to UV fading.
