FAQ
Q. What is PVC ?
A. Polyvinyl chloride (also known under its acronym “PVC”) is a widely-used substance. It is essentially derived from simple ingredients: petroleum, titanium and salt. It is a hard plastic that is made softer and more flexible by the addition of plasticizers. In terms of revenue generated, it is one of the most valuable products of the chemical industry. Globally, over 50% of PVC manufactured is used in construction. In addition to its good physical properties, PVC has excellent, chemical resistance, long-term stability, flammability resistance, good weatherability, flow and insulatory electrical properties. The diverse slate of vinyl products can be broadly divided into rigid and flexible materials. Rigid applications, accounting for 60 % of total vinyl production, are concentrated in construction markets which include windows, doors, railing, fencing, pipe and fittings, siding as well as carpet backing. As a building material PVC is affordable and easy to assemble. In recent years, PVC has been replacing traditional building materials such as wood, concrete and clay in many areas.
Q. Is PVC just a trend or is it here to stay ?
A. In 2002, PVC windows represented 46.2 % of all the units manufactured (with respectively 10.9 % for aluminum and 41 % for wood) with projection of 48.7 % of the market in 2005. You do the math…
Q. Why should I go with PVC products rather than aluminum and woods ?
A.
Unlike other material, PVC will not rot, corrode or otherwise be affected by sun, humidity, salt, pests, rodents or other harsh elements. It is the perfect material for coastal applications and conditions prevailing in the Caribbean regions.
Q. Do you have any dealers I can meet with ?
A.As a strategic decision, PVC Windoors has decided to be in direct contact with its clientele. This option has multiple benefits. By being directly involved PVC Windoors eliminates delay, communication problems and risk of errors. This element is crucial when you manufacture made-to-measure windows and doors. And more so when you want to provide feedbacks and exchange ideas with your clients. Besides, this structure helps PVC Windoors in keeping a uniform price structure.
Q. I purchased Windows glazed with Insulated Glass and I can see condensation between the two panes. What does that mean and what should I do ?
A. If you purchased windows or doors glazed with insulated glass and you see condensation BETWEEN the two panes of glass, that means that the seal between those panes is somewhat damaged and is not performing as it should. Should that be the case, you will have to replace your glass. This could be done without replacing the whole window of course. We recommend contacting your installer or a glazier to perform the replacement.
Q. I purchased Windows glazed with Impact Glass I can see cloudiness between the panes. What does that mean and what should I do ?
A. Even if that phenomenon is not frequent, you glass can suffer from delamination. Whether your glass is still strong and still protect you, it may need to be replaced.
Q. I purchased Windows glazed with Impact Glass and during a storm, it was hit by a heavy debris. Now the window is cracked.
A. One of the benefit of using Impact Glass is to protect yourself and your home from hurricanes. Even if one of the piece of glass is cracked your glass should hold together during the storms. It will have to be replaced, which is an easy task.
Q. What are the reason why I should go with Impact Glass rather than Single glazing or Insulated Glass ?
A.We can summarize the situation in one word: “Comfort”. Comfort in knowing your property is resistant to severe impact. Comfort in the acoustical quietness of your home. Comfort against the harshness of sun rays (UVs and BTUs).
Q. What is the difference between the Window size and the “Rough Opening” ? A.The “Rough opening” is the opening in a wall where a window or door unit will be installed. Openings are built slightly larger than the window's frame to allow room for installation. PVC Windoors recommend a rough opening ½” wider and ½” higher than the actual window or door to allow for an optimal installation.
Q. Do you have a printed catalog ?
A.PVC Windoors can provide you with brochures of our fine line of products. As far as printed catalog goes and since we manufacture made to measure windows and doors, we decided to incorporate an online version of our products to our website.
Q. Do you install windows and doors ?
A. Because our products are exported abroad and in order to be able to install them, we would need work permits in each and every of the 45 countries where we export which is virtually impossible.
Q. If my glass is cracked or shattered, do I have to replace the whole window ?
A. No, you can replace the pane(s) of glass only. Again, we recommend you contacting your installer or a glazier to perform that replacement.
Q. Is shipping included in the price ?
A. Unless specified otherwise, our prices are “ EXW our factory ”. That means that title and risk pass to the buyer including payment of all transportation and insurance cost from the PVC Windoors' door.
Q. How do you secure your products for shipping so they do not become damaged ?
A.If the quantity justifies it, we prepare a container (either 20' or 40') by installing 2” x 4” on its walls. We then secure each window and doors with 2' x 4's that are screwed to the container's floor or wall's. During the installation AND once completed, we take pictures of the whole securization.
Q. To what increments do you make your windows and doors ?
A. We manufacture windows and doors to 1/8” increment.
